Give an animal safe place to land, for however long they need it

Some animals may find life at the shelter stressful and would be happier in a home environment. One-to-one time in a home environment can help them to settle and gain confidence while they’re waiting to be adopted.

 

When you foster an animal for us you will be caring for them on a temporary basis while we work to find them their forever home. You will be fully supported and supplied by the centre so there is no financial cost to you. It's one of the most rewarding ways to help animals in our care, and it means we can help more animals than our centre alone has space for.

 

Why we need foster carers

Our Taylors Rehoming Centre does incredible work, but a home environment is often exactly what an animal needs — whether that's:​

 

• Nervous or under-socialised animals who need one-to-one time to build confidence before rehoming

• Animals awaiting space at the centre when we're at capacity

• Animals recovering from illness, injury or surgery

 

What's involved

As a foster carer, you'll provide day-to-day care, company and a safe space for your foster animal, while our team continues to manage their veterinary care, behavioural support and the search for their forever home. You won't be doing this alone — we're on hand throughout with guidance, advice and support when you need it. Some animals may need to be in foster longer than others, we’ll ask how long you’d like to foster for.

 

We provide:

• Food, litter and any essential equipment

• Full veterinary care and treatment

• Ongoing advice and support from our team

• Guidance on introducing your foster animal to your home

You provide:

• A safe, quiet space in your home

• Time, patience and TLC

• Regular updates to our team on how your foster animal is settling in

• A willingness to let them go when the right forever home is found (the hardest part, but the most important one!)

 

Is fostering right for you?

Fostering is ideal if you love animals but aren't in a position to commit to permanent ownership right now — whether that's due to work, travel, or simply not being ready to take the leap. It's also a wonderful option if you'd like to help multiple animals over time rather than just one.

Requirements:

• A settled home environment with space to keep your foster animal safe and comfortable - If you are in rented accommodation, you will need written permission from your landlord 

• Foster cats MUST be kept indoors

• The ability to keep foster animals separate from resident pets

• Any existing pets must be fully vaccinated, neutered and free from contagious diseases.

• Time to dedicate to their care 

• Transport to and from the centre or our vets for vet appointments, check ins and to collect supplies

• You need to be at least 18 years old

• Live within a 30-minute drive from the centre and our vets

• References from 2 non-family members who can vouch for your character and experience

• Happy to send us photos/videos we can use to help find your foster animal a new home and show to potential adopters. 

• A love for animals! Experience of caring for your desired species of foster animal is desirable. You’ll need to be open to learning and following our advice.
